6 Must Haves for Your Plant Based Journey

Vegan Starter Kit

Guess who is kicking off her blog posts with some vegan hacks for you? Other than where I find cheap flights (blog post on this coming soon), I always get asked about advice for transitioning into a plant based lifestyle. This will be your ultimate guide to making that step so much easier.

Happy Cow

This. App. Is. A. Life. Saver. I seriously use this app EVERYWHERE I GO. Happy Cow allows you to see any restaurants/food options near by that are vegetarian and vegan friendly. You’d probably be surprised by how many are around you right now! I’ve used this in Japan, Guatemala, Colombia; Literally anywhere I travel to, I find myself scrolling through my options for eating out. The app is $3.99 in the App Store and Google Play but you could also just use the website for $Free.99.

Thrive Market

“Being vegan must be SO expensive.” THE LIES. In my opinion, you’re actually saving so much more when you aren’t buying all the meat and cheeses you would regularly purchase. Don’t get me wrong, vegan eating CAN be expensive but it doesn’t have to be at all and Thrive Market is one of the best sources to prove that. Think of Costco online, but a health food store - yes that exists. They constantly have sales and freebies too. The best part is that for every membership that Thrive Market receives, they donate a free-membership to a low income family in America. I absolutely love the idea of spreading health to those who may not have as much access to it as others.

Food Gawker

You know I have a hack for those of you who like cheffing it up yourselves instead of eating out. This website was such a huge help in my transition into this entire lifestyle. Basically Food Gawker allows you to enter in any ingredient you may have and filter it to “vegetarian” or “vegan” or “gluten free” or any other preferences you may have, and provides dozens of recipes to choose from. Say you have some mushrooms in the fridge that you can’t figure out what to do with: Enter it in to Food Gawker, filter the search to vegan, and BOOM. Options for days.

iHerb

If you’ve been watching me for a while on YouTube, you know that I’m a big advocate for herbal supplements. This goes for non-vegans too. Herbal Supplements are so vital to improving your overall health and well being. I can’t stress enough how much they have helped my body to continuously flow and maintain the energy it needs to perform. iHerb is home of every single herbal supplement and vitamin you can imagine. Ordering online always feels better to me because sometimes going into health food stores and vitamin shops can be somewhat intimidating when you don’t exactly know what you’re looking for. They also offer free shipping on orders over $20 which is so lit.

YouTube

Are we even surprised that this is on the list? When in doubt, YouTube it out. For real though, there are a TON of recipe videos and helpful advice on the internet. There’s also a lot of trash and misguided information too so be weary and by all means DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. I’ll just share a few of my favorite videos/channels that I think you’d enjoy.

Books

I know reading isn’t for everyone but if you truly want to heal and change your lifestyle, YOU are the one that’s got to get excited about it. And reading about health doesn’t have to be like sitting in a biology class or anything like that. There are some really easy to read books that make sense of all of these bodily functions and how to maintain them.

Book Recommendations:

Vitamins & Minerals from A to Z

Vegetarians & Vegans From A to ExtremeZ - A Guide for Diet & Consciousness Expansion

  • this book is literally only 48 pages & covers EVERYTHING you need to know for your transition into veganism.

Own Your Own Body

You Can Heal Your Life

2020 Tantra

  • Only 13 pages and this book covers everything you ever needed to know. By far, one of the best reads ever.

What are some of your recommendations for anyone transitioning into this lifestyle? Let me know in the comments!
