Why Tummo Breathing is My Favorite

Tummo = Inner Fire

Maybe you’re familiar with the Wim Hoff method that is known to keep the body temperature regulated/warm in a cold plunge, but have you tried tummo breathing? This is my personal daily favorite technique to practice for a plethora of reasons but to keep it simple:

  • This ancient technique is known to wake up that “inner fire” within, but literally as well. The body heats up to expel (think of when you have a fever, the sauna, when you’re working out). So when we consciously can tap into this shift in our homeostasis & body temperature, it’s incredible! Tummo breathing is the best technique during any kind of fast or detox in my opinion. It curves the idea of “needing” anything when you’re so full of prana (breath). So if there is an addiction you’re looking to decrease or completely end, start here!

  • Tummo breathing really resets the nervous system into a more parasympathetic state. It allows for more brain cognition and clarity in your entire being. When you take 18 tummo breaths, the nervous system is completely refreshed and reset.

  • On an emotional and metaphysical level, referring back to my first bullet, removing the idea that we “need” certain things to be okay really allows us to trust ourselves so much more. When you realize you have everything you need, you are truly rich.

  • By slowing down, you actually accelerate healing. I am a big believer in slowing down actually saves you a lot of time and this technique supports that completely. Fast breaths tend to blow off a lot of CO2 and actually reduce our tolerance to oxygen. With these slower breaths, we allow for the body to fully receive oxygen and really nourish our inner world.
